3. and I want to begin by telling you about a former politician in Australia.

4. Back in 1970, he was making a statement, and he said that the Bible is wrong.

5. The meek will not inherit the earth.

6. Only the aggressive and the assertive and the strong will inherit the earth.

7. To most people, meekness means weakness.

8. This man was one of them.

9. Many, many people around the world believe that.

10. The moment they hear the word "meekness," they think of somebody who is a doormat.

11. The moment a person hears the word "meekness," they think of someone who’s weak,

12. or someone who is indecisive,

15. The moment so many people hear the word "meekness," they think of someone who is fearful.

16. They think it means "coward."

17. The moment a person hears the word "meekness," they think of someone who is told what to do.

18. The true meaning of the word "meekness" has nothing to do with these descriptions.

19. Meekness is neither weakness nor timidity,
它既不是软弱，也不是胆怯，
20. nor does it mean to be a doormat.

21. Meekness, as we are going to see today, it means "power under control."
正如我们今天所要讲的，“温柔”代表“控制自如的能力”。
22. Not so long ago, a prominent American announced that Christians are losers.
不久前，美国一个名人宣称，基督徒都是失败者。
23. This man went to a Christian school
这个人上过基督教的学校。
24. and they taught him this wrong concept of meekness;
因为校方错误教导了“温柔”的意义，使他产生误解；
25. therefore, he concluded that meekness means weakness,
因此，他断定温柔就是软弱的意思。
26. and, to be successful, he could not be weak;
为了成功，他不想软弱；
27. but that is a great distortion of the real meaning of this third beatitude in The Master's Manifesto.
但这的确是对主的宣言中，第三项福气所说的温柔，一个很大的曲解。
28. Certainly, no one could accuse Moses of being weak or a coward;
一定没有人可以指控摩西，说他是一个弱者或懦夫；
29. yet, God described Moses as the meekest man on the face of the earth.

30. There is no more courageous man who walked on the face of the earth than the Lord Jesus Christ;

31. and, yet, He said of Himself,

32. “I am meek and lowly in heart.”

33. In fact, the Bible tells us that there is a sinless type of anger.

34. The Bible tells us there is a righteous type of anger.

35. The Bible tells us that there is a courageous type of anger.
有一种勇敢的愤怒。
36. The Bible tells us that there is a godly type of anger.

37. When Moses came down from Mount Sinai,

38. and he saw the people worshipping a bull

39. after all that God did for them,

40. he smashed the tablets of the Ten Commandments.

41. When Jesus saw the Temple being desecrated by unbridled greed,

42. he whipped them out of there and cleansed His Father’s house.

43. There is a godly anger which builds up,

44. but there’s also a godless anger that tears down.

45. There is a righteous anger that cleanses,

46. and there is a selfish anger that defiles.

47. There is a courageous anger that seeks to glorify God;

48. then, there is a cowardly anger that seeks self-glory.

49. The Bible makes a distinction between the power out of control and power under control.
圣经中，明确区分了受控制以及不受控制的能力。
50. Proverbs 16:32 says,

51. “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty
“不轻易发怒的，胜过勇士。
52. and he that rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”

53. That is power under control.
这就是一种受控制的力量。
54. In Proverbs 25:28,

55. it says,

56. “He who has no rule over his spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls.”

57. That is power out of control.

58. I have a plaque on the wall in my office.

59. It is written by a great Korean saint.

60. It says, “When you lose your temper, you lose everything.”

61. Obviously, the reason I hang it on the wall is because I know something about that subject.

62. Years ago, the Lord began to teach me this very, very important lesson;

63. and the lesson is this -

64. are you listening carefully? -

65. anger is power,

66. just as fire is power.
就像火是一种能量一样。
67. I know what it is for the fire of anger to flare up.

68. When fire is under control,

69. it becomes your servant.

70. You can harness it to accomplish great things;

71. but, when the fire gets out of control,

73. and would create havoc.

74. So it is the case with anger.

75. It can be your servant

77. A woman one time came to a minister one day,

83. I have known Christians who have been believers for forty years;

84. and, yet, they have never learned this important third lesson from The Master's Manifesto.

88. Jesus’ beatitudes are like a string of pearls that identify the Christian character.

89. Just like the fruit of the Spirit are many and, yet, it is "fruit" in the singular,

90. so are the beatitudes.

91. They may be eight or nine in number;

92. yet, they are one cluster;

93. but they are given to us in steps.

94. Each step helps us develop godly character,

95. as we live in a world that is increasingly belittling the importance of character.

96. Those who are poor in spirit
虚心的人，
97. have the Kingdom of God,
天国是他们的，
98. because the poor in spirit become the ones who mourn over their sin.
因为虚心的人，会为自己的罪哀恸。
99. The poor in spirit are the mourners over sin;
虚心的人，就是为自己的罪哀恸的人；
SECTION B
乙部
1. and the mourners over their sin are those who will have power under control;
为罪哀恸的人，就是能够控制力量的人；
2. and, because they have their power under control, they will possess the earth.
因为他们能控制自己的力量，他们就能承受地土。
3. To be poor in spirit and mourn over sin is our disposition toward God;
虚心和为罪哀恸是我们对神的态度；
4. but to be meek is our disposition toward people.
温柔，则是我们对人的态度。
5. Those who have the right disposition toward God,
那些对神有正确态度的人，
6. they will have the right disposition toward people.
就会对人有正确的态度。
7. Those who walk humbly before God
那些在神面前谦卑的人，
8. will walk God’s way toward others.
就会按照神的方法对待别人。
9. Those whose hearts are right with God
那些对神持正确心态的人，
10. will learn to develop the right heart toward people.
就会学习以正确的心态对待人。
11. If you have your Bible with you, turn to Matthew 5:5.

12. Jesus said,
耶稣说，
13. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
“温柔的人有福了，因为他们必承受地土。”
14. The Greek word translated "meek," here,
这里，翻译成“温柔”这个词的希腊原文，
15. was a very familiar word to the original hearers of the Lord Jesus.
对当时耶稣的听众来说，是非常熟悉的词语。
16. It was used to describe the soothing effect of medicine.
它被用来描述药物使人宽心的作用。
17. It was used to describe the effect of the gentle breeze upon the sailing boats in the water.
也被用来描述微风轻拂帆船的情形，
18. It was used to describe the wild animal who has been broken.
或者描述被驯服后的野兽。
19. These were the three common uses of that word during Jesus’ earthly ministry.
当耶稣在世上传道的时代，这些就是当时，对这个词语最常用的三种解释。
20. Let us look at each one of them very closely.
让我们来仔细看看这些解释。
21. Write them down.

22. The medicine,
药物，
23. the wind,
风，
24. and the wild animal.
和野兽。
25. If there is one thing that these three incomparable items have in common, it is this:
这三种不同的事物有一个共通点，那就是：
26. power.

27. Medicine has power -
药物具有能力──
28. power to destroy viruses,
杀灭病毒的能力，
29. power to dull pain,
镇痛的能力，
30. power to relax muscles,
放松肌肉的能力，
31. power to relieve the fever,
退烧的能力，
32. power to help in the healing process.
就是医疗过程中的能力。
33. The wind has power.
风也有能力。
34. If you mention the word "hurricane,"
如果你提及“飓风”这个词，
35. people who live in the hurricane regions of the world, they will shiver with fear.
住在飓风区域的人，他们会害怕颤抖。
36. Why?
为什么？
37. Because wind has power.
因为风有能力。
38. Wild horses have power.
野马有力量。
39. If you ever watched a man on a bucking horse,
如果你曾看过骑野马的人，
40. you would know that a horse is a powerful animal.
就会知道，马是很有力量的动物。
41. The medicine,
药物，
42. the horse,
马
43. all have power.
都有力量。
44. If their power is under control,
如果这些力量能够好好控制，
45. wonderful things will happen.
奇妙的事就会发生。
46. If their power is out of control,
如果失去控制，
47. devastation will happen.
就会形成悲剧。
48. Medicine, in the right dosage, will help in the healing;
合适剂量的药物，就有助于疗效；
49. but, if a person decides to drink the whole medicine bottle all at once,
但如果一个人，一口气喝下整瓶药，
50. thinking that he will get well quickly,
以为这样就可以尽快恢复健康，
51. he will get more sick.
但他的病会变得更严重。
52. A gentle breeze is delightful.
微风让人心旷神怡。
53. A summer breeze is great for sailing of boats.
夏日的海风有助于帆船的航行。
54. Too much wind becomes a hurricane and a great dust storm;
但风势太猛就会形成飓风，和沙尘暴；
55. and the hurricane and the dust storm destroy.
它们都具有破坏性。
56. A trained horse is delightful to his master;
一匹驯服的马会让主人称心；
57. but an untamed horse is dangerous.
但野马则会形成危险。
58. When Jesus used the word "meekness,"
“当耶稣说“温柔”这个词时，
59. He was telling us all about power.
祂在教导我们有关能力的功课。
60. Power that is harnessed,
约束了的力量，
61. power that is tamed,
驯服了的力量，
62. power that is under control,
受控制的力量，
63. power that is subdued,
克制住的力量，
64. power that is broken.
打碎了的力量。
65. Let me give you an example from the Bible.
我再举一个圣经里的例子。
66. When Abraham’s shepherd and the shepherd of his young nephew, Lot, came to blows,
当亚伯拉罕的牧羊人和他侄子罗得的牧羊人发生争执的时候，
67. Abraham had his power under control.
亚伯拉罕就表现出受控制的力量。
68. Abraham said to his young, wild nephew,
他对年轻，桀骜的侄子说，
69. “Take what you want and depart in peace.”
“选择你想要的一切，平安地离开吧。”
70. Abraham could have said to Lot,
亚伯拉罕可以对罗得说，
71. “You only have what you have because of me.”
“要不是我，你一无所有。”
72. He could have said to him,

73. “You know that the elder gets the first choice

74. and you will get the leftovers.

75. You are an ungrateful nephew and you will not get anything...”

76. but to the contrary,

77. Abraham had power, but had power under control.
亚伯拉罕有这种能力，但他克制自己。
78. He said to Lot, in effect,
其实他是对罗得说，
79. “Take what you want.
“你要什么，就拿什么，
80. Go where you choose.
去任何你挑的地方。
81. I will take the leftovers
我拿剩下的，
82. and go in the opposite direction.”
我去相反的方向。”
83. Abraham knew that his inheritance was secure in God.
亚伯拉罕知道，他的财产，全在神的保护下。
84. Abraham believed that his sufficiency was in the Lord.
亚伯拉罕相信，在主的手中，他丰富有余。
85. Abraham knew that God was the source of his blessing
亚伯拉罕也知道，神是一切福气的源头。
86. and God’s storehouse never runs out.
神的仓库，永远都不会空乏。
87. Abraham knew that his greedy nephew could not rob him of anything that God had for him.
亚伯拉罕明白，他贪婪的侄子，不能夺取任何神赐给他的东西。
88. Please listen carefully.
请仔细听我说，
89. No one can rob you of what God has for you.
没有人可以夺走神为你预备的一切，
90. If someone tries,
如果有人试图这么做，
91. God is going to make it up to you
神就会补偿给你，
92. with dividends on top.
连本带利。
93. When you are meek,
当你温柔的时候，
94. when your power is under control,
当你控制自己的力量时，
95. God’s blessings for you are yours alone
神给你的福气，就单单属于你。
96. and your name is written all over.
全都在你的名下。
97. Nobody can take it away from you.
没人可以将它夺走，
98. God kept His promises to Abraham,
神坚守了祂对亚伯拉罕的诺言，
99. and because Abraham was meek,
就因为亚伯拉罕是温柔的。
